Australian IS researchers conduct mostly multi-disciplinary research on socio-technical issues. Our discipline was allowed to include conference papers in ERA 2012, but still prefers journal publications as the final outlet for the research results. Hence our conferences are mostly used to collect timely feedback from peer groups and senior researchers on the results obtained so far.
The conferences in the list were discussed and endorsed by ACPHIS, hence, the quality of these has been tested by the people who publish in those outlets. Conferences are included in this list on the basis of credibility of the review and selection process. At this stage, there is no comparative ranking proposed. The list is published as a reference guide for our students and early career researchers.
Participation in conferences is a useful exercise to support networking, continuity of the research forums, especially to encourage local participation, and promote a publication quality management culture among the early career researchers and students. The list does not include more specialised conferences which are not sponsored by international professional association (eg, the ones in knowledge management, security, eBusiness, etc), which may be useful to attend but can’t be compared to the ones in the list on the basis of the rigour of the selection process. It is expected that this list will be regularly reviewed based on the feedback from a wider Australian IS community. We welcome any updates on the list accordingly.
